About the Players

Isha Thapa
Isha Thapa

Isha Thapa, age 21, is from Palo Alto, California and is a Senior at UC Berkeley. She learned to play bridge at age 14 from a class at her middle school and continued to learn from her dad after that. Her successes include becoming Life Master in 2011, representing the U.S. in the Rona Cup in 2012 & 2014, and placing third in the girls’ pairs event in the World Youth Bridge Championships in 2013.

She also reestablished, and is the president of, the UC Berkeley Bridge Club. Additionally, she is an accredited bridge teacher and has taught a 1 unit introductory course to her fellow students.

Isha and her UC Berkeley teammates won the ACBL Collegiate Championship in 2014 and finished third in 2015.

Allison Hunt
Allison Hunt I'm a sophomore chemistry major on the pre medicine track at Davidson. I've been playing bridge seriously since I was 13, but I learned the basics when I was 6. I also have danced since I was 3 years old.
 
Asya Ladyzhensky
 Asya Ladyzhenski

Asya Ladyzhensky 22, was born in Bradenton, FL and currently lives in Raleigh, North Carolina where she is a student at Wake Tech.

Both of Asya's parents are world class bridge players, so she grew up around bridge. She started caddying at local tournaments and eventually started to play.

In 2010, Asya represented the USA on the U26 girls team in Philadelphia for the 13th World Youth Bridge Championship.

In 2013, Asya and Allison Hunt won the North American Youth Pairs and also the Youngsters Pairs at 3rd World Youth Open Bridge Championship at Atlanta, Georgia.In 2014, Asya represented the US in the Rona Cup Team event in Istanbul.

Becca Wernis  
Becca Wernis

Becca started playing bridge as a freshman in high school in Chicago, under the tutelage of her chemistry teacher, who offered bridge classes after school.  Having learned some basics, she attended her first NABC in Chicago and was hooked. 

Becca, 24, graduated from Caltech with a degree in physics and is currently a graduate student at the University of California, Berkeley studying atmospheric chemistry.  She represented the U.S. in 2012 & 2014 on the Rona Cup team. in 2012, she and her Caltech colleagues placed 3rd in the ACBL’s collegiate championships, in 2014, she and her UC Berkeley teammates won the Collegiate Championships and in 2015 they finished third.

Amber Lin 
Amber Lin

Amber Lin is 18 years old and from Edison, NJ.

She was awarded Queen of Bridge 2015 and is currently a freshman at Princeton University studying Civil & Environmental Engineering.

She is so excited to be playing in the Rona Cup trials this year!

Kathleen Loeb Kathleen, 22, was the 2013 ACBL Rookie of the Year.
She currently lives in Dallas, Tx, where she works full time while completing an undergraduate degree in political science.
