Isha Thapa

Isha Thapa, age 19, is from Palo Alto, California and is a sophomore at UC Berkeley. She learned to play bridge at age 14 from a class at her middle school and continued to learn from her dad after that. Her successes include becoming Life Master in 2011, representing the U.S. in the Rona Cup in 2012, and placing third in the girls’ pairs event in the World Youth Bridge Championships in 2013. She also reestablished, and is the president of, the UC Berkeley Bridge Club. Additionally, she is an accredited bridge teacher and will be teaching a 1 unit introductory course this spring to her fellow students. |
Julie Arbit

Julie is 21, attending the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, and pursuing a degree in Psychology and Environmental Science. She started playing duplicate bridge at school, and have since found success winning the NAP C in St. Louis, as well as placing third in the girls' pairs event at the World Youth Championship in Atlanta. She says that she owes her accomplishments to the local Michigan bridge talent, who have sensed potential in her, and mentored her to where she is today. |
Marianna Linz
| {mosimage} | Marianna Linz, 24, grew up in Cincinnati, Ohio playing bridge with her parents and older brother. She was introduced to competitive bridge through the bridge club at Harvard in her freshman year. She was the vice president of the Harvard bridge club her junior year and the president in her senior year, playing primarily casual bridge while she focused on her studies in Chemistry and Physics and Earth and Planetary Sciences. After she graduated in 2011, she got back into competitive bridge through the Rona Cup tryouts, and represented the US on the Rona Cup team in 2012. She is now a second year Ph.D. student in Physical Oceanography at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. |
Becca Wernis

Becca started playing bridge as a freshman in high school in Chicago, under the tutelage of her chemistry teacher, who offered bridge classes after school. Having learned some basics, she attended her first NABC in Chicago and was hooked. Becca, 22, graduated from Caltech last spring with a degree in physics and is currently a 1st year graduate student at the University of California, Berkeley studying atmospheric chemistry. She represented the U.S. in summer 2012 on the Rona Cup team. That same summer in Philadelphia, she and her Caltech colleagues placed 3rd in the ACBL’s collegiate championships. |
