In Ireland, USBF members David Berkowitz, Larry Cohen, Fred Gitelman, Bob Hamman, Geoff Hampson, Bobby Levin, Jill Levin, Zia Mahmood, Jill Meyers, Paul Soloway, Steve Weinstein and Roy Welland defeated a strong team from Europe to win the first-ever Buffett Cup of Bridge. Modeled after the golf Ryder Cup, the Buffett Cup had Team, Pair and Individual phases. The two teams were tied in the Teams phase, but the USA team won both the Pairs and the Individual to score a convincing victory.
