President's Report to USBF Members

USBF President, Jan Martel, sent the following report to all Active and Resident Members of USBF Monday, Oct. 2nd. President Martel promised expansions of several of the sections in the report soon. Expanded reports will be in the About USBF section of this website and linked to the points in the report.

When I was elected USBF President last year, I had some goals. One of them was to send email reports to members on a regular basis. From the fact that I’ve served as USBF president for almost two years and this is the first such report I’ve written, you can judge how well I achieved that goal. However, better late than never (I hope).

USA Team Wins First Buffett Cup

In Ireland, USBF members David Berkowitz, Larry Cohen, Fred Gitelman, Bob Hamman, Geoff Hampson, Bobby Levin, Jill Levin, Zia Mahmood, Jill Meyers, Paul Soloway, Steve Weinstein and Roy Welland defeated a strong team from Europe to win the first-ever Buffett Cup of Bridge. Modeled after the golf Ryder Cup, the Buffett Cup had Team, Pair and Individual phases. The two teams were tied in the Teams phase, but the USA team won both the Pairs and the Individual to score a convincing victory. 2011 USBF ELECTION - Nominating Committee Slate

Two members of the USBF Board of Directors will be elected to join the Board in 2012. Each will serve a three year term ending January 1, 2015. 

The USBF Nominating Committee has nominated the following people for the two seats:
Active Member seats:  Sylvia Moss (incumbent)
                                     Jonathan Weinstein

In accordance with the USBF Bylaws as clarified in the Election Procedures, additional candidates may be added to the slate by petition, as follows:

  • 4.    Petition Candidates
    Active Members in good standing may be added to ballots by petition. A valid petition application form requires twenty-five (25) Active Member signatures. Petitions must be received at USBF headquarters no later than ten (10) days prior to the ballot mailing date.

The ballot mailing date is February 16th so the last day to submit a nomination Petition is January 27th.

If there are no petition candidates, the two candidates nominated by the Nominating Committee will be elected without need for mailing and return of ballots.

2012 USBF ELECTION - Nominating Committee Slate

Three members of the USBF Board of Directors will be elected to join the Board in 2012. Each will serve a three year term ending January 1, 2016. 

The USBF Nominating Committee has nominated the following people for the three seats:
Active Member seats:  Cheri Bjerkan (incumbent)
                                     Howard Weinstein (incumbent)
                                     Bob Katz
