Bids that Require Advance Preparation

We open most 8-10HCP hands with 1H, 1S, 2C, 2D or 2NT and all 11HCP hands.

1st and 2nd: 1H/1S are 4+ card suits, may be canopy, 8-11HCP

1C and 1D are artificial promising 0 cards in the suit. 1D is forcing. 1C is NOT

NV 2H/S are undisciplined weak two bids
2C/2D are 9-11HCP and VUL 2H/2S are 9-13HCP, 6 card suits.
In 3rd seat the above bids become 3-13HCP
In 4th seat the above bids are 9-13HCP

One Club
--------
1C is 11-14HCP 0+ Clubs. 1st and 2nd seat, NV the hand may contain any shape including a 5/6 card suit. Vul most 6 card suits are opened on the two level. 3rd and 4th the hand does not contain a 5/6 card major

After 1C, 1D is artificial and MAY be a GF. It is the only GF. However, 1D may also be used for hands that do not want to respond to 1NT or other hands in the 9-11HCP range without a 4 card major.

A response to 1C of 1H, 1S and 1NT is NF. Pass, 1D, 1H and 1S may be 0HCP. A pass implies (but does not guarantee) some clubs.

1C-1N shows 4M4M

Responding 2C, 2D, 2H, 2S to 1C is natural 3-9HCP.

Responding 2NT is invitational, no 4 card major.

Interference after 1C
---------------------
After interference through 2H we use transfers with 1NT a weak club transfer and the excluded transfer a stronger club transfer. 2S shows a balanced hand GF. A double of 1H/1S card showing. Commencing with interference of 2NT and above all bids are natural and forcing except unusual/unusual.

1NT
-------
14-15HCP. Stayman and Jacoby 1NT-2D-2H-2S is a puppet and handles all 5-5 hands. 4 suit transfers. 2C may start a GF relay. 2C-2D-2H = crawling Stayman.

One Diamond (1st and 2nd)
---------
1D 15+ forcing and artificial, occasionally less with shape. Responses: 1H 7-9HCP or 14-15HCP, 1S 0-6HCP, 1NT and above are GF and artificial 10-13HCP or 16+HCP (Symmetric Relay). A response of 1NT shows Spades, 2C shows Hearts, 2D is balanced, 2H is Clubs, 2S and 2NT are Diamonds. Responder may have a second suit which may be longer.

After 1D-1H (7-9HCP), 1S is a GF relay. With 14-15HCPHCP responder goes past the end of the relay.

3rd and 4th 1D is 16HCP unbalanced 18HCP balanced

Interference after 1D
---------------------
After direct interference (except 1D-x) through 2H responder uses transfer responses. A double of 1H or 1S is card showing. Commencing with interference at or above 2NT all bids are natural and forcing except unusual/unusual.

After 1D-X-1H and 1S are flip-flop (other major) 6-9HCP. XX is 6-9HCP no 5-card major. 1N and above retain meaning

After indirect interference when responder has made a GF bid of 1NT (Spades) or 2C (Hearts) opener can continue the relay with the lowest call (pass). Double is a support double.

Indirect interference after a 2D or above response results in normal, non-relay bidding.

One Heart and One spade (1st and 2nd)
-----------------------
1H/S-P-P shows 3 or responder is broke

1H and 1S opening bids are 8-11HCP (or rule of 17) and at least 4 cards in the suit. The hand may contain a longer suit. With 4M4M we open 1H. With 5M5M we open 1S with 5M4M we open 5M

1NT is the only force after a 1H or 1S opening.

1H-2S is natural and invitational.

New suits are NF.

1H-2H, 1S-2S shows 4+ card NF raise

A 1NT response to 1H or 1S can be game forcing, invitational or drop dead. If responder's second bid is the next suit (other than NT or opener's major) it is GF.

3rd and 4th 1H/1S are normal 5 card major openings

One No Trump (14-15HCP) (15-17HCP 3rd and 4th)
-----------------------
All 5-5 responding 5-5 hands start with 2D.

After a major transfer other than a puppet to 2S, bids are shape showing including a 2NT rebid.

All bids of 2S through 3S are artificial and shape showing.

After 1NT-2C (Stayman)-2X, 2NT is a balanced slam try

Two Clubs, 2 Diamonds
------------------------
9-11HCP 6 card suit
3rd 3-13HCP

2 Hearts, 2 Spades VUL 1st and 2nd (all suits 4th)
-------------------------

2NT 8-11HCP 5-5 or better minors preemptive
---------------------------------

Defensive Bidding
-----------------
Normal Mike Lawrence style.

After a Precision 1D, A jump overcall on the 2 Level is 10-14HCP, 6 card suit. A 1NT overcall is 14-16HCP if your 1NT 1s 14-16 or 13-15. Major overcall may be 4 card suit

Over a Precision 1C, X shows hearts, 1D shows spades. 1H, 1S, 1NT are crash. 2 level are 6 card suits

Ove all 1NT openings we use a version of Suction in direct and pass out seat. 1N-x=Clubs or Diamonds and Hearts or Hearts (5) and spades or Spades and Clubs. 1NT-2C=Diamonds or Hearts-Spades (5) or Power. 1NT-2H=one major. 1NT-2H=Hearts and Clubs, 1NT-2S=Spades+ Diamonds. Exception: Against 10-12HCP NW we use Woolsey in pass out (X=penalty, 2C = majors 2D=1 major, 2H/S= M+m

General Bidding Style

1H,1S, 2C 2D, 2NT in 1st and 2nd seat are very light and limited (8-11HCP) . In 3rd seat they are 3-13HCP

We may upgrade a 5-4-3-1 11HCP hand containing a 5 card major from 1H or 1S to 1C. However we do not upgrade a balanced 10HCP hand to open 1C. We either open 1H or 1S with a 4 card major or pass.

3rd and 4th
----------------------------
1H and 1S are 8-14HCP. 2C=Drury. 1C-1D natural
